We arrived in Haiti safely and easily. Like driving from Santiago to santo Domingo. We arrived at the orphanage in ebenezer just a few miles over the border. Only encountered a few tent cities. Tomorrow we will head to port au prince to get the team then come back. People are very nice but difficult not to speak creole. I started speaking Spanish out of habit.

We have some preliminary water test data. It appears to be mainly sulfer salts of sodium, magnesium and calcium. They are about an order of magnitude plus a multiplier more concentrated than our typical treated water. Ross is working with a scientist at Kinetico for specific recommendations.

One of the things I’m really enjoying about learning Spanish is reading the bible. I have a bilingual bible I’ve had for years and I’ve read the verse in spanish and I’ve read the verses in english. However, this time I’ve read the Spanish with more understanding of the meaning of the words. Not just seeing the english meaning in the words…but new meanings to the verses. I’m sure it is similar to learning Hebrew or Greek and reading the bible with more clarity of the context. It is neat to see how the spanish language interprets the verses.

Last night I went with Kim and 2 other female missionaries to the mall to see a movie. We saw Did You Hear about the Morgans? Surprisingly it was in english. Apparently most are with spanish subtitles. No wonder the movies aren’t the thing to do around here!!

Yesterday we watch Susana and Nancy get on the plane to head back to freezing Ohio. It was fun hanging out and going on adventures with them. I was able to do so much that I had wanted to do but the pastor didn’t have time to do and I couldn’t take a mission group on. Yesterday was supposed to be a day of rest for the pastor but she ended up working most of the day! I’m not really sure what happend to the morning but the afternoon we ran errands and fixed the alarm on the church….well met the guy that fixed the alarm on the church.

Friday afternoon we left for Bani, just east of Santo Domingo, for the Iglesia Evangelical Dominicana Church. All of the pastors from all the churches in the country were present. We had to travel through Santo Domingo, which was a bit confusing, but we eventually found our way to the rustic camp. We celebrated the vote of Conquo as the new bishop. It was neat to be there with all the pastors and meet pastors from all over the country. Friday night we drove back to Santo Domingo to spend the night at a hotel.

Today we are driving to Bani for the Iglesia Evangelica Dominicana annual conference. All of the pastors from all over the country are coming in. We will be spending the weekend there visiting and worshiping with all of the pastors. Though Nancy and Susana have been there the past few years, this will be my first time. We are going to stay in Santo Domingo (the capital) and then go to worship. We will also be visiting Moreno’s (one of Nancy’s friends) family while we are there. Moreno, Carly, and Jorge are all in Spain now and Carly is expecting a little boy in April.
