Mar 19- Cleansing Rain

This morning I read my devotion out of the Disciplines Daily Devotional for yesterday. (I was a little behind) The passage comes from Isaiah 43:16-21 ” 16 This is what the LORD says— he who made a way through the sea, a path through the mighty waters, 17 who drew out the chariots and horses, the army and reinforcements together, and they lay there, never to rise again, extinguished, snuffed out like a wick: 18 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. 20 The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, 21 the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.”
The devotion today talked about the excitement of new things. Yesterday it poured!!! Here rain like that shuts down roads and water is every where. One things that is does is clean. All of the trash is collected in one place and the streets are washed clean. Even last night in the church. The floors were flooded…but today they are clean! Its like a new beginning, a fresh start.
The devotion says” We have to keep our attention on who is doing the separating and the springing up of water in the desert. When something amazing happens, our thoughts and thanks may go straight to God….But the further we go…the more forgetful we become of God’s doings. and then we start thinking that we are the ones holding back the waters.” The longer that I am here the easier it is to become accustom to “regular” life and easy to forget even the daily tasks are for God. I have never claimed to be holding back the waters, and I pray that I can surround myself with Godly people so that I never get there. God has done amazing things here and continues to move. I know it is only by God’s gifts can we raise the $12,500 for the water system and finish the house and start the school….all hopefully in the next year.
I am thankful for the rain as it brings cooler air, hides the hot sun, and brings a new beginning to the new day!
